Director: Vanessa Perala at perala.vanessa@meridianschools.org

There are four types of bands at Mountain View High School: Concert, Symphonic, Marching and Jazz. All are directed by Vanessa Perala. At the Idaho District III Marching Band Festival in October of 2007, the Mountain View Marching Band represented the school extremely well, taking home first place overall in the 5A Small category with additional awards in Best Marching and Maneuvering, Best General Effect, Best Percussion and Best Music Performance.

Freshmen students are placed by default into Concert Band, where they have the opportunity to move up to Symphonic Band later in their high school career. Students in Symphonic Band are required to partcipate in the Summer-Fall season of Marching Band (where they get to wear cool uniforms and march around in funny shapes.)

Mrs. Perala also directs the smaller Jazz Band, which performs a number of charts throughout the year, concentrating on the Big Band/Swing era of Jazz. Jazz Band is filled with kids who aren't afraid to improvise in front of other kids even though they might sound bad at first.
